    Radiolocation

    Overview

    Radar
For perimeters such as airports, refineries, tracking small objects, static in the air and low elevation.

    Technology
Active electronically scanned phased array, X-band, precision stabilization system.

    Advantages
360 view, low blind zone, custom tracking software, safe, low power consumption, no warm up time (instant).

    Stabilization

Own design, for stabilization of turning and angling of antenna to any direction (to -2 degrees).

    Team

Radio engineers, mechanical engineers with specialization in drives and stabilization systems.

    Process

Tested and getting ready for production.

    Technology

    Antenna:
Based on the active phased array technology, with 360 view and continuous frequency modulation.

    High resolution:
    In range ΔR<1m, radar cross-section 0.01 m^2.

    Generator:
    Working in X-band.

    Emitter:
Power is only 1W. Increasing power to 5W will increase the range.

Problems the team wanted to solve

    Blind zone:
Most radars, even with the same technology, have blind zones of 30+ meters.

    View:
Most active phased array radars have only 90+ view.

    Tracking small objects:
Majority of systems track larger objects (large cross-section), allowing smaller objects to pass undetected.

    High radiated power:
Most radar systems are not always safe in populated areas.

    Goals

    Monitoring:
Small/medium UAVs with smallest cross-section (moving and static), vehicles, people.

    Secure perimeters:
Such as airports, refineries, 1-5 km area with 360 degrees field of view.

    Robust mechanical system:
For stabilization, angling, and visual sensors support and guidance.

    Inexpensive:
    The radar complex is inexpensive.

    Testing

    Targets:
Test site 1: main target was mini drone with 0.01 m^2 reflective area (cross-section), additionally people were detected.
Test site 2: vehicles and people in densely populated area.

    Confirmed ranges:
Test site 1: maximum detection range 1155-1221 meters. 0.5 meters ground elevation and 0.5 meters from walls. Static positions were tracked successfully.
Test site 2: vehicles up to 5km, people up to 2.2km, same ground elevation and distance from the wall as during the first test.

    Additional modules and modifiers

The system is provided with proprietary software for object detection and tracking. Multiple radars can be networked together.

The system also can be equipped with a selection of additional blocks depending on the customer's requirements, such as video cameras or ultra short pulse system for a precise identification of the type of object without video cameras as shown on the right.
